India's First Mega Transshipment Container Terminal - Vizhinjam Seaport

The Vizhinjam International Container Terminal is the first Mega Transshipment Container Terminal in India. It is being developed by ADANI group. It is situated in Vizhinjam, Kerala, and serves as the sole transshipment hub in the Indian subcontinent.

The terminal is strategically located on the Indian coastline, closest to international shipping routes. It benefits from a natural draft of 20-24 meters and minimal littoral drift. In its initial phase, the terminal has a capacity of 1 million TEUs, with plans to expand by an additional 6.2 million TEUs in subsequent phases.

The terminal is equipped with advanced automation technology to ensure efficient vessel turnaround and has state-of-the-art infrastructure capable of handling Megamax containerships.

The unique feature of Vizhinjam port is that it does not experience sedimentation along the coast. Additionally, the port has a natural depth that eliminates the need for extensive dredging, resulting in lower costs compared to other ports in India located within a reasonable distance from the East-West Shipping axis.

The Trivandrum International Airport is located in close proximity to the Vizhijam sea port, with a distance of merely 16 kilometers separating the two.
